– What motivated you to join the Academy for Heroes?
First of all, I wanted to gain the knowledge I had always dreamed of, but which was financially out of reach for me. Similar courses cost a lot of money. Secondly, studying is truly healing. For a year and a half, I didn’t go anywhere — no one could get me out of the house. But here, I’m integrating back into society, into a community that truly motivates me even more.
Thirdly, it’s a new opportunity to enter the IT field and, of course, a chance for a good income.

– How does studying help you adapt to civilian life?
Communication with different people — first and foremost with other veterans and instructors we meet throughout the learning process. These courses are a very important initiative for us, so the Academy, which organizes and supports such projects, is doing something truly valuable and meaningful. It’s quite rare nowadays to find educational programs of this level and focus that are accessible, which is why for veterans it’s an amazing and real opportunity.

– What skills or knowledge have you gained so far?
I’ve only been studying for a month, but I’ve already learned a lot of new things. For example, in English, we’ve been given a lot of material that most of us probably missed in school. Even the things I could never understand before were explained here very clearly and quickly.
As for Backend and Python, the training started not long ago, so there’s still a lot more learning ahead.

– What do you like the most about the studying process?
The main thing is that they let us work independently, but at the same time, they guide us in the right direction. The instructors give advice and are always available, so you always feel supported.

– What are your plans after completing the courses?
To find a job and work — that’s what all of this is for. But not just for the money; it’s also important to enjoy what you do. You can make a lot of money, working 24/7, with your hands or your head. But I want a job that brings satisfaction, not just income.

For many veterans, just like for Vasyl, studying is not only about gaining new knowledge — it’s also about returning to oneself and restoring inner balance. That’s why the Academy for Heroes has become a space where everyone can feel supported, find like-minded people, and discover new opportunities.
