If you have ever seen “ECTS Credits” written in a course description or on a diploma and thought: “What does that even mean and who needs it?” — this article is for you. When students transfer between universities in different countries or take part in exchange programmes, a logical question arises: how do you compare 4 years of study in Lviv with 3 years in London? This is exactly where the ECTS credit system comes in — a kind of “currency converter” for education. In this article we will cover: 1) what ECTS credits are and where they came from; 2) how they are calculated and what they are used for; 3) how this works in Ukraine and in different countries around the world; 4) and how ECTS credits can be earned even outside of university.

After 2022, a new technology industry — Military Tech — began to rapidly take shape in Ukraine. According to the Militarnyi publication, more than 500 companies are currently working in the drone manufacturing sector alone, and this number continues to grow. As the industry develops, there is a growing demand for specialists who can create and support these technologies: programmers, testers, electronics engineers, data analysts, and others. That is why the question “how to get a job in MilTech” is being asked more and more often. And the answer usually begins with one important realisation: MilTech is not a single profession.

Manual and automated testing are the two main approaches to verifying software. Manual testing is performed by a manual QA engineer, who goes through product usage scenarios and checks how it works. Automated testing is performed by an automation QA engineer, who creates and runs test scripts to automatically verify system functions.

The IT industry is constantly growing, and along with it the demand for specialists responsible for software quality is increasing. Today, an Automation QA Engineer (test automation engineer, software tester, or simply an automation engineer) is a critically important part of the development cycle. Such a specialist automates complex testing scenarios, which allows companies to release products faster. Automation engineers help teams check the performance of services and applications faster, find bugs, and prevent problems even before people start using them. Unlike manual testing, they create automated test scenarios that run on their own and can repeatedly test the system without human involvement.

The term Military Tech is increasingly heard in professional circles, media, and discussions about the future of security. However, behind this wording stands not a fashionable label, but an entire system of technological solutions that are already influencing the course of modern conflicts. Military Tech — is the integration of artificial intelligence, drones, and secure software into the defense sector. These technologies transform conventional weapons into “smart” systems that automate reconnaissance and battlefield management in real time. This is not only about new types of equipment. Military Tech is a systemic approach to warfare, where technologies reduce the time required for decision-making, lower risks, and strengthen coordination. In modern conflicts, the advantage goes not to the one who has more resources, but to the one who moves faster through the OODA cycle: observation, orientation, decision, action. It is the shortening of this cycle that has become one of the key transformations of warfare in recent years.

Some consider retraining for the first time, some think about stable employment, and some simply need support and a community nearby.

In the IT field, English is not a bonus but a working tool. Documentation, interviews, team communication, meetings — all of this usually takes place in English. That is why the issue of learning it becomes especially relevant for veterans who are transitioning to a civilian career in IT. This material was prepared based on the experience of instructors from the Academy for Heroes — a non-profit organization that provides free IT courses for veterans and their families in Lviv.

This debunks the myth that the industry is open only to recent graduates. In fact, maturity becomes a significant advantage if one approaches a career change not emotionally, but strategically.
