Choose Your Direction
Broadly speaking, IT can be divided into technical and managerial specialties. For example, PM (Project Manager) or QA (Quality Assurance) are ideal for those who want to manage processes or be responsible for quality. If you want to dive into product development, consider Full-Stack. Full-Stack developers are programmers who work across all levels of a product.

What’s the minimum you need to know?
PM: To begin, you need to understand how teams work, have strong organizational and planning skills, and know the basics of methodologies such as Agile and Scrum.
QA: Here, attention to detail, knowledge of testing approaches, and familiarity with testing tools are essential. Knowing how to ensure product quality is the core of QA work.
Full-Stack: First, it’s important to master the basics of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Next, focus on working with databases and server-side languages such as Python or Node.js. Becoming a Full-Stack developer requires time and commitment, but it offers great freedom in choosing projects.

3. Hard or Soft Skills?
Often, it is not so much technical skills that are important as the ability to work with people, resolve conflicts, and find common ground with the team.
Soft Skills: patience, adaptability, communication skills, and the ability to find solutions in challenging situations. Many veterans possess these skills because their military service taught them to work under stress, make quick decisions, and maintain team spirit.
Hard Skills: basic technical knowledge that needs to be mastered depending on the field. In IT, hard skills are important, but they can be learned from scratch in a relatively short time, especially if you are motivated.

4. How to get started
You can start with free resources like online courses, webinars, and YouTube. Also, consider specialized courses for veterans that are adapted for those transitioning from other fields. For example, the Academy for Heroes offers free IT courses in Lviv to support veterans in acquiring modern skills and opening up new opportunities.

5. And most importantly, Motivation and Self-Belief!
You already know what discipline, endurance, and the ability to reach a goal mean. Now it’s time to apply them in a new field! IT – is a new challenge that can offer you freedom of choice, the opportunity to build a career, help others, be useful, and find enjoyment in your work.
So, go ahead! The IT world is open to those who are not afraid to change and learn!
