What is your story? Who were you before you began working in IT?

Back in 2006, I enrolled in the Lviv Army Academy. I graduated in 2011 and served until 2019, when my military contract ended. Upon discharge, I saw an announcement about the Ukraine-Norway project at Lviv Polytechnic, which was a software testing course. I passed the entrance exams and was accepted into the course. After graduating, I applied for an internship at SoftServe, where I was also accepted on my first attempt. I then began working at GlobalLogic, where I immediately joined a large multimedia project for an American TV channel that produces television devices. That’s how I entered the IT field.

Why did you decide to pursue a career in IT?

Many of my friends worked in this field, and my wife advised me to have a “starting point.” At the time of my discharge, I only had a military education, but my significant advantage was my proficiency in English.

Was it difficult to adapt to IT after military life?

Yes, it was. The structure of the teams, their dynamics, and overall communication—including the relationships between people in IT—are very different from what one experiences in the army. It was challenging, but in a positive way…
